The
Old House has an eccentric layout and no two rooms seem
to be on the same level. The living room has a three-seater sofa
and easy chairs and features an inglenook with a small but ornamental
woodburner.

The
cosiness of this room is completed by table lamps, in place of overheads,
and a total absence of television. It does have a CD player, free
WiFi connection and a selection of books and games, however. A lovely
chestnut staircase leads from the living room to the double bedroom
with its polished floorboards and wonderful views across the fields.
The good-sized shower room - with walk-in shower - is also on this
floor. Steps down from the living room lead through a low granite
Napoleonic arch to the kitchen/dining room. The well-equipped built-in
kitchen has acres of cupboard space, a double bowl sink, ‘fridge,
gas hob with hood above, built-in mini-oven and microwave, coffee
maker and, of course, a kettle! Lights fitted beneath the wall units
illuminate the work surfaces. Click this image

The pine doors compliment the antique glass-fronted dresser and
the huge pine surrounded fireplace. The farmhouse table will seat
six with ease. From the kitchen, a door leads into the back lobby,
which houses the freezer. Off the lobby are the downstairs W.C.
and the utility room with washing machine. The back door opens into
the small rear garden. Again from the kitchen, a second, steepish,
staircase takes you up to the first floor with its plethora of timbers
and sloping ceilings. |

To
the right you will find an extensive library and to the left is
the twin, semi-mezzanine bedroom. This is ideal for a second couple
or older child/children (14+). The furniture is an eclectic mix
of antique and modern, giving it a homely, lived in feel. There
are fewer doors than you might expect, but this adds to the sense
of spaciousness. With the exception of the rear lobby, the cottage
is double-glazed and centrally heated. So guests during the cooler
time of the year will have a warm, cosy base to come back to. Having
said that, The Old House is not normally available
from the end of September until the beginning of the following May.
To the front is a sunny patio area with garden furniture and you
are invited to make use of all our gardens. |
